100 Years of Dental Hygiene

This year marks the 100 year anniversary of the opening of the first dental hygiene school in Bridgeport, Connecticut.  It all started with Dr. Alfred Fones who determined to improve oral health and prevent oral disease in his patients.  He trained his assistant to be what he called a dental hygienist and opened the first school for instruction in 1913.

Another caution to be very aware of the sugar content in some of your kids' favorite snacks.

Remember to eat sugary snacks in moderation and drink lots of water to help minimize the impact on your kids' teeth.

Nothing to be afraid of

A study in the International Journal of Pediatric Dentistry suggests that Children may be afraid to visit the dentist because of their parents.

The study found that when a person fears a dental visit, his or her children will also develop that fear.  But there is hope to overcome it.

Animals need Dentists too

Dentistry isn't just for humans.  Animals have teeth too and sometimes they get cavities or gum disease, and once in a while they even need a root canal or a tooth pulled.
